 Cape Wrestlers Finish Strong

Well, another wrestling season has come to an end.  This season was a great one and I personally want to thank all the coaches for doing an incredible job with both the B Team and the Beltway Team.  The coaching staff was very pleased with the new wrestlers and their enthusiasm.

Coach Craig Bohlman said that the returning wrestlers made huge improvements over the previous season and the B Team improved with every match and made a great showing in the end of year tournament.   Craig stated that for a new wrestler there is so much to learn in order just to wrestle a match, and to have almost all of our wrestlers finish the season is a great accomplishment as wrestling is such a demanding sport and requires a lot of commitment on both the parents and the wrestlers.

Cape's Beltway team finished their season with the CAWL League Tournament.  The Cape Team made a great showing finishing eighth out of nineteen very competitive teams.  Place winners in the CAWL Tournament were:

  • Cameron Harrell - 1'st Place
  • Stevie Smith - 5th Place
  • Connor Joyce - 3'rd Place
  • Dan Hawkins - 3rd Place
  • Zach Smith - 3rd Place
  • Dylan Edwards -7th Place

Those place winners along with Aidan Welsh qualified for the MD/VA State Championships.  This year is the first year that Cape had more than one state finalist.  Cape had three wrestlers in the finals...Cameron Harrell, Zach Smith and Dan Hawkins.  Unfortunately, Cameron was our only champion winning the 90 pound weight class.  Both Zach and Dan lost in the finals both losing in overtime.  Stevie Smith took a seventh place.  Both Connor and Aidan were one match away from placing.  The team took ninth out of about seventy teams.  This was Cape's best team showing at the state tournament. Congratulations to all the Cape Wrestlers for doing an outstanding job this year!

I also want to send out a huge thank you to the following coaches for doing such a great job with these young wrestlers.

Scott Harrell, Craig Bohlman, Randy Bohlman, Gary Bohlman, Tim Bohlman, Dave Poe, Matt Reid, Pat Pollock, Greg Zemanski. There were also some other coaches from time to time. So please forgive me if you helped out and you're not listed...you are appreciated.
